"The Savage My Kinsman”

A few years ago the world was startled by the news of five missionaries slain by the savage Auca Indians of Ecuador. All were family men. Here, the wives are told the fateful news at the time of the massacre. Elisabeth Elliot, author of “ The Savage M y Kinsman,” sits at far right.

“ The Savage M y Kinsman” is the story of life among the savage Auca Indians who killed the five American missionaries several years ago. Betty Elliot, whose hus band was one of the missionaries, went to live with them and wrote this extraordinary story in words and pictures. Here she takes a pic ture while her daughter Vcderie and missionary Mardette Sensony look on. It was especially difficult to take her little daughter, Valerie, with her. Yet from the first day in the jungle village of the Aucas, Val erie felt at home among friends. Here she plays with Bai, an Auca child.
