Three Dose Approach The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome aims to normalize infant crying through their recommended three dose approach to PURPLE . Prevent Child Abuse Florida is proud to partner with organizations across the state of Florida to bring this three dose approach to life . Dose 1 : Staff deliver PURPLE booklet and education to parents / caregivers prenatally - within first few weeks of baby ’ s life before crying increases . PURPLE app is downloaded and videos are viewed . ( Ex . at discharge following birth , at prenatal class ) Dose 2 : Reinforce PURPLE education by having a follow - up conversation in first few months of baby ’ s life . How ? Ask parent / caregiver if they have received the PURPLE booklet . If yes , check in with how parent / caregiver is doing during high crying time , ask about amount of crying baby is doing . If no , provide booklet and continue with Dose one . ( Ex . during home visit with agency , during well baby appointment ) Dose 3 : Prevent Child Abuse Florida records and airs PSAs over radio and TV thanks to Florida Association of Broadcasters . Social media videos and graphics are also available to partners to post , these can be found in the PURPLE partner toolkit . FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can my baby really cry for up to 5 hours a day and still be considered healthy ? Yes ! All babies cry , some more than others . PURPLE reminds parents and caregivers that it is always best to ensure you maintain regular appointments with your doctor if you have concerns .

Why do babies cry ? Especially this much for only a few months ?

Crying is a normal part of child development . Babies cry the most in months 1 - 5 , but they will grow out of this .

What can I do to soothe my baby ?

Some strategies that may help include : Holding or rocking baby , swaddling , walking , white noise or soft music , warm bath , offering a pacifier , going for a car ride or stroller walk . Sometimes nothing works ..... and that is still normal .

What if none of these soothing techniques work ?

It is okay to place baby alone , on their back , in their safe sleep space ( crib , bassinet , pack - n - play ) and take a responsible break while checking on baby every 5 - 10 minutes . Taking this time to call your doctor , call a friend / family member , step outside into fresh air , or drink some water are all much safer than attempting to soothe an infant while upset .

Can multiple people access the app through my one code ?

Yes ! Each booklet has a unique code to access the free PURPLE app . Up to five profiles may be created under one access code .
