It helps parents and caregivers : Understand that increased crying in early infancy is normal and temporary Learn coping and soothing strategies Make a plan for what to do when they feel frustrated or overwhelmed Reduce the risk of AHT / SBS PURPLE is an acronym that describes a normal developmental phase of crying :
P – Peak of crying U – Unexpected R – Resists soothing
P – Pain - like face L – Long - lasting E – Evening As a partner , your main goals are to : 1 . Normalize infant crying 2 . Reinforce that it ’ s okay to put the baby in a safe place and take a break 3 . Share PURPLE materials consistently and clearly , w ith fidelity .
