Where there Is any "extraor- dinary evidence" in the ordinary event • of the Lord's "dropping His body" and "springing up" in His spirit, as, so it is said, other men do, it will take a Philadelphia lawyer to discover. But we may learn this: (1) The intellects of these intellectual men are not so omniscient as many suppose; (2) or the reverent devotion to truth they allege ^ is a pretense; and (3) their honesty is in question. For if they are blind to the lameness of their logic ( ? ), their critical judgment is worthless; if they a re aware of it they are practising "cun- ning craftiness" to lead astray "the unwary," and, in that case, slyly pick- ing our pockets 'and running away with o ur verbal currency, whereby "personal •God," "divinity of Christ," "resurrec- tion," "miracle," "inspiration of the Bible," and other terms of the historic doctrine are the equivalents of well- understood treasures of faith, trade- marks, the use of which the moral pure Excuses "And they all with one consent began to make excuse."—Luke 14:18. The Christian's main work in this world is to lead sinners to Christ, and saints up into him their living head: Luke 19:10;' Rom. 5:6; Eph. 4:14, 15; John 13:34; Phil. 2:5; 1 Pet. 2:21. Excuses for continued Christlessness. "I cannot hold out if I begin": 1 Pet. 4:19; Ps. 121:1; Isa. 43:2; 1 Cor. 10: 13; 2 Cor. 12:9; Rom. 8:38, 39; Jude 1:20-25. "I am too sinful to be saved": Isa. 1: 18, 43:25, 44-22; Mic. 1.7:18, 19; John 3:16; Rom. g:6-8; 1 Pet. 2:24; Rev. 22:17. "I have not sufficient feeling on the subject": Ps. 143:2; Eccl. 7:20; Isa. 53:6; Acts 13:39; Rom. 3:10-20, 7:24; Eph. 2:8, 9. "Your church members are no better than I ": Hos. 4:9; Matt. 7:1-5; John 21:21, 22; Rom. 2:1, 14:3, 4, 12. "I have tried before and failed": Deut. 4:29; Jer. 29:13, 50:4, 5; Hab. 2:4; Rom. 4:5. "I mean to be a Christian but not to- night": Prov. 27:1; Luke 19:5; 2 Cor. 6:2; Luke 12:20; Heb. 3:13; James 4:13-17. "I cannot surrender all for Christ": Esth. 4:14; Matt. 10:39; John 12:25; Mark 8:35, 37, 10:29, 30; Phil. 3:7-9; 2 Tim. 2:11, 12.

The events in question are either natural or supernatural. Yes, we know that the Outlook, unless we lookout, would trip us here by asking, "Where does the sky end?" They would settle the issue with a fillip, a cast of a coin stamped "natu- ral," on one face, "supernatural" on the other, with "Heads I win, tails you lose"; but we insist upon it that "natu- ral" and "supernatural" have specific values, and can not stamp the same coin, or be rated like "chips" at the whim of the players. Why do not these men say frankly: "No; we do not believe in the divinity of Christ, the inspiration of the Scrip- tures, the miracles, or the resurrection, that the wayfaring man may not err in his estimate of them? "My doubts make faith impossible": Ps. 25:14; Luke 16:31; John 6:40, 7:17; Eph. 1:9, 18; 2 Tim. 2:2, 13. "I once knew my Saviour": 1 Kings 11:9; Ps. 78:56-59; Isa. 1:16-18; Jer. 2:19, 3:13, 14; Hos. 14:4; Rev. 2:4. "I really do not know just how to be- lieve": John-5:24, 6:40, 47, 3:14, 15; Isa. 45:22; John 1:11, 12; Isa. 26:3, 4. "Can I trust Christ without acquaint- ance?"
