VANKLEEK HILL COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE’S BEST AND BRIGHTEST ATHLETES

For VCI football juniors, Stamati Gous- kos and Matthew Miller were named for the MVP and MDP honors. Senior honors went to James Lauzon for MVP and Riley Murphy MDP. Honored for their curling achievements

Soccer awards this year went to Natalia LaRosa and Julia Marsolais, as junior girls MVP and MDP nominees. For junior boys, the nominees were Damien Gauthier for MVP and Luke Goosen for MDP, with senior nominees Cody Laloux for MVP and Taegan Hallahan MDP. In track and field, Natalia

Marsolais MVP and Evy Cooley MDP. This year’s Outstanding Junior Athletic Achievement Overall awards went to Ashlie Leclerc, girls nominee, who evolved in four sports programs this year, and to Jack Freedman, boys nominee, who was involved in six sports programs. Top Academic Senior Athlete awards, this year, went to Emilie Lovitt and Jeremy Marsolais, who maintained grade point averages of more than 80 throughout the year, while being involved in two or more sports programs. The Top Senior Athletes Awards, for involvement in at least three sports programs through the year along with demonstrating leadership and sports- manship, went to Samantha Cummings and Jeremy Marsolais.

It has been a good year for sports at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute. “We have enjoyed a wonderfully exciting year,” said Principal Trevor Wheeler, during the opening ceremony for the Annual VCI Sports and Extracurricular Achievements Awards presentation June 17. One of the highlights of the morning event was the announcement of the recipient of the Garett Allen Award, a memorial tribute to a former VCI athlete. David Krawczyk was named for the award in recognition of his efforts during the past year which “best exemplifies the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication, and sense of humour” of Allen himself. In addition to his other non-sports related extracurricular achievements, Krawczyk was also nomina- ted for the VCI baseball most dedicated player award. Honours for VCI basketball went to Vale- rie Allard and Chelsea Sauvé as MVP and MDP junior girls nominees, Jorge Vasquez and Nathan Gerow as junior boys MVP and MDP nominees, and Jeremy Marsolais and Connor Allard-Remenda as senior MVP and MDP nominees. In volleyball junior girls, honours went to Ashlie Leclerc and Emma Lightle-Blais as MVP and MDP nominees, with Samantha Cummings and Chloe Duval as the senior girls MVP and MDP nominees. For junior boys, the nominees were Alan Chouinard for MVP and Jorge Vasquez MDP, with senior honours to Jeremy Marsolais for MVP and Wesley Bennett MDP.

Cette année, David Krawczyk, qui fréquente le Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute, a reçu le prix Garett Allen lors de la cérémonie annuelle de remise des prix sportifs et pour réalisations extrascolaires, qui a eu lieu le 17 juin.
