8.5 First aid kit

Purpose: First aid is the immediate and temporary treatment given in the case of an accident or sudden illness before the arrival of a trained medical professional. Appropriate first aid reduces pain and helps get the injured person in a better state until medical assistance arrives. A fully equipped first aid box must be available in each Boutique and must be appropriately and adequately stocked. To provide first aid in case of any accident/incident, we need to ensure that the staff are suitably trained to provide first aid in an emergency. Guidelines: 1. Every Boutique should be equipped with a first aid box or cupboard provided, maintained and accessible during all working hours with the minimum prescribed contents listed in the table below.

2. Each first aid box should be placed in a clearly identified and readily accessible location.

3. First aid kits/boxes should be checked frequently to ensure they are fully stock and all items are in usable condition.

4. The name of the certified first aider needs to be provided on the premises.

5. If there are not enough staff members that are able or willing to provide first aid care in any situation or incident, then this should be escalated to your Line Manager. Most shopping malls provide first aid facility with well-trained first aid personnel. The manager must ensure that the use of the mall first aid facility for Bateel's customers is acknowledged within the store. 6. First aid is only provided for people with minor injury/accident or until medical assistance arrives. Boutique Managers must ensure all employees are aware of the need to alert emergency services in the event of a serious accident or injury within the premises.
