ASA COLEMAN

A sa Berchet Coleman, a trailblazer and change agent. She is a native of Norfolk, VA by way of Washington, D.C. where she graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s in legal communications. She holds a masters in educational psychology (George Mason University), a certificate in Women’s Entrepreneurship (Cornell University), and is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership and organizational development

(University of Louisville).

She has a love for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) and proudly boasts her alma mater. She is also a product of two HBCU grads, Norfolk State University (mother) & Tuskegee University (father). Asa is a mom of two, Terry & Talia, and credits her children for her drive and determination. She is a published author, the curator and designer of This Queen Collection, and part owner of PiscesLeo, Inc.

Asa is the cofounder and executive director of Coleman Preparatory Academy, an HBCU-inspired private school providing a new branch of educational excellence to Louisville, KY. Her passion for education and Coleman Prep stems from her belief in the need for education equity as a means to close the “achievement”.

Much of her educational experience was served as a teacher, coordinator, and administrator in District of Columbia Public Schools, District of Columbia Charter Schools, and Portsmouth Public Schools. Her past positions include those in the classroom and out, but always focused on the achievement of students and dispelling myths believed of them.
