3901 Fairfax will be the 1 st WELL Precertified new construction project in Northern VA Skanska Hits Construction Milestone at 3901 North Fairfax Drive in Arlington, VA
A RLINGTON, VA –– Skanska , a global development and con - struction firm, recently cel - ebrated the topping out of 3901 Fairfax, a nine story, 201,000 s/f office building in Arlington. The project is targeting LEED Gold, WELL Core V2 Gold and WiredScore Gold certifications. “Our team has done an out - standing job completing the complicated excavation and concrete building process to achieve the topping-out mile - stone at 3901 Fairfax,” said Dale Kopnitsky , executive
vice president for Skanska Building’s Washington, DC operations. “We are inspired and look forward to delivering this modern, sustainable and dynamic office building.” The topping-out ceremony, a tradition passed down for generations throughout the construction industry, honors the construction team’s hard work and signals a time of celebration for the progress made on a project. The effort to achieve the milestone is highlighted by the following: • More than 100,000 man hours have been worked to date. • 1,780 truckloads of concrete have been used. • 41% embodied carbon reduc - tion was achieved, compared to traditional concrete con - struction, using the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calcu - lator (EC3) tool, co-conceived by Skanska. The 201,000 s/f building de - signed by CallisonRTKL will be the first WELL Precerti - fied new construction project in Northern Virginia. Once completed in 2024, the proj - ect will feature daylighting and electric lighting systems designed to increase alertness and an enhanced experience for occupants. Building with the tenant’s health and well- being in mind, the property’s amenities include more than 12,000- square feet of outdoor space across a rooftop ter - race, private tenant terraces a plaza, conference space, and a modern fitness facility. “3901 Fairfax will set the standard for meaningful work - places,” said Mark Carroll , executive vice president and regional manager of Skanska USA Commercial Develop - ment’s D.C. market. “From the park-like plaza with invit - ing retail space to the indoor outdoor biophilic design – we are creating a one-of-a-kind experience for future occu - pants to enjoy this dynamic Arlington neighborhood.
