shares in the business with the goal of one day being a 50 percent owner. It was during those early, exciting days full of possibili- ties and the potential for the proverbial “pot of gold” that Jim Davis was dubbed “Head Leprechaun,” and thus be- came the model for Packaging Express’s new logo. “It seemed like every other box plant in the country had some rendition of a box in their logo,” says Matt Davis, now president of Packaging Express. “We were just trying to

have some fun with it while giving a nod to our Irish heri- tage. There’s a lot of presidents and CEOs out there, but not many Head Leprechauns. At the end of the day, we’re just making boxes. We’re serious when we have to be, but we’re trying to have some fun, too. I truly believe that if you’re happy at work, you’re going to be happy at home and if you’re happy at home you’re going to be happy at work.” Matt became 100 percent owner of the company in 2011 when his father sold his remaining shares to him – Jim Da- vis also sold his remaining shares in Deline Box back to the Deline family, per a longstanding agreement – after the passing of his wife, Matt’s mother, Jane McLaughlin Davis, in 2009, when Jim became less interested in the box busi- ness, retired to dedicate his time to the many boards he serves on and moved to Phoenix for the warm winters. The “Head Leprechaun” still dances back to Denver during the year and has been known to visit the facility that has The Baysek C190 is a reliable die cutting workhorse.
