In addition, the Emba is going to propel us to even newer and better equipment while we keep our eyes open for what our next niche might be.” Complementing its Emba is Packaging Express’s 98- inch Gopfert SRE Maxi a meticulously well-maintained 20- year old machine that looks brand new. “The best thing about it is that you can open it up and actually walk into it,” says Davis. “Karl Gopfert told my dad, ‘If you run a small sheet plant, you need one of these,’ and Gopfert was ab- solutely right, the machine is awesome.” Rounding out the company’s primary converting equip- ment is a 55-inch by 77-inch Eterna by Brausse, which is the same size as the Baysek C-190, so there are some redundancies. All machinery and departments are opti- mized with recently installed Advantzware software and modules. “Even though we’ve been doing this for 25 years, we still feel like we’re a startup. We’re in a 100,000-square- foot facility and now we’ve got some room to really grow,” says Davis, who admits to being a former “hermit” in terms of not wanting anyone to know what his little sheet plant was doing and fearing the wrath of the integrateds. “Now we have enough excellent equipment so we can really compete and hold our own with anyone as a value-added standalone box plant.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 40
