SURGICAL SUTURES The purpose of the surgical suture (medical device) is to hold body tissues of the surgical wound together until the healing process progresses to such an extent that it is not considered necessary to further support it. Main parts of a surgical suture are the thread and the needle, and a number of different shapes, sizes and thread material have been developed over the last decades.
