ROCKLAND | It came as a surprise to Coun. Guy Desjardins when Mayor Marcel Gui- bord stripped him of all his committee du- ties for the City of Clarence-Rockland. The mayor called a special press confer- ence July 29, to announce that Coun. Des- jardins had "lost the confidence" of a ma- jority of the council. As a result the mayor removed the councillor for Ward Six of all his committee responsibilities for council. Desjardins will no longer sit on the plan- ning advisory committee, the environmen- tal committee or serve as vice-chairman for the administrative committee. Coun. Diane Choinière will take his place on planning and Coun. Guy Félio will become the ad- ministrative committee’s vice-chairman. The Ward Four councillor was accused of conflict of interest because his son works for the con- sultant firm, Levac Robichaud Leclerc As- sociates, and Serrurier voted on resolutions involving tenders for which the company had submitted bids. In his affidavit, Desjardins stated Serrurier was not in a conflict of interest as his son held just a minor position in the company. Desjardins indicated the charge was an at- tempt at embarrassing senior members of council who were part of the former admin- istration of then-mayor Richard Lalonde. Following the press conference, Coun. Serrurier tendered his resignation from the planning and recreational trail committees. 3433, ch.
