Entry to the Junior School
2022 Entry Registration Deadline: ` Friday 5 November 2021, 12 noon
The main point of entry into the Junior School is at age 7 (Year 3) when we have approximately 45 places available (three Forms of 15-16 boys). We have 6-10 additional places for entry at age 8 resulting in Year 4 classes of around 18 children and 6-10 places again at age 9 with a total of around 20 pupils in Year 5 and 6 Forms. Places are not allocated in order of registration.
Disability and Special Educational Needs We will do all that we reasonably can to accommodate the needs of children with disabilities, subject to the resources and facilities that are available at the relevant time. Parents of a child who has a disability or special educational needs must provide the Junior School Registrar with full written details (preferably professional reports) by 5 November in order to make helpful adjustments to the administration and analysis of the 2022 assessments.
The College complies with its legal responsibility under the Equality Act 2010.
Visiting the Junior School
Due to the COVID situation and Government guidelines we are not currently able to welcome visitors to the College Campus. During the Summer term we will be holding virtual parent meetings giving parents the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss details about the entry process. We hope from the start of the Michaelmas Term we will be able resume tours and invite parents to visit the Junior School during the school day with The Head of Junior School leading tours for up to five sets of parents, mainly on Friday mornings. The website will be updated in June with the dates and details on how to book a visit. This provides an excellent opportunity to see the Junior School at work and to discuss the details of the entry procedure.
Junior School Open Morning Saturday 9 October 2021
During the morning, the Master of the College and the Head of Junior School will speak at allocated times and Junior School students will be giving tours alongside senior staff members

Entrance Assessments
Year 3:
Year 3 (Age 7+) Stage 1 Assessment: Saturday 4 December 2021
Year 3 Stage 2 Assessment: Friday 7 January 2022
Applicants will visit Dulwich College and complete online reasoning assessments in small groups. These tests are a means of looking at a pupil’s underlying ability and are ‘age-standardised’. Ideally, applicants will have some working knowledge of how a mouse works, but this is not essential. If your son has never used a mouse before, please do share this in your application, so we can ensure the necessary support is available on the day. Approximately two thirds of candidates who have shown sufficient promise in the digital assessment will be invited back for Stage 2 Assesment. Applicants’ schools will be contacted directly for a confidential report at the end of November. Further information on our assessments is available on our website at www.dulwich.org.uk/admissions/years-3- 4-and-5-entry
Approximately two thirds of applicants will be invited back for a one-to-one interview, with a member of Junior School staff, and a group activity lesson. During the one- to-one interview, they will be asked to read aloud and answer some comprehension and maths questions and will also be asked to write in response to a stimulus. The group activity lesson offers boys the opportunity to work with others and show their interest in learning. Decisions on a boy’s suitability will be based on his digital assessment results, one-to-one interview, school report and his approach to learning as demonstrated throughout his time with us. Results will be posted first class on Friday 4 February and replies will be required by Friday 11 February by noon.
We are looking for potential in students; students with natural ability who will thrive with a Dulwich education.

A few means-tested bursaries are awarded annually to new boys entering Year 3 and occasionally in Years 4 and 5; a greater number of bursaries are available at Year 7 and 9, allowing more families to benefit from financial assistance. Applicants will be considered on the basis of their performance in the assessments, and parents will be asked to complete a confidential statement of financial circumstances which, if they are offered an award, will be reviewed annually. Bursary allocation in the Junior School is competitive and interested parents are encouraged to contact the Junior School Registrar for further information.
