Unit 14
Word work: dictionary work Read these entries from a dictionary. Then answer the questions.
You can use an online dictionary to check spellings.
1 Is the word small a verb or an adjective? 2 Is the word shout a noun or a verb? 3 Where would the word sly go? a) before shout b) between shout and snack c) after snack
If two words begin with the same letter (e.g. s nake and s hout ), look at the second letter to find which order they come in. ‘h’ comes before ‘n’ so sh out comes before sn ake .
Writing: Describe a place Make your writing more interesting.
Write about what you see , hear , touch , taste and smell . Lisa wrote that the ‘birds were singing’ and that ‘ she smelt grilled chicken’.
Getting ideas 1 Choose one of these places. • a market • a school playground
In the market I can hear people shouting.
2 What can you hear , see , touch , taste and smell there?
