Using Coconuts Coconuts grow all over the Caribbean. They are good to look at and good to eat – but that’s not all. Food and drink Coconuts provide us with food and drink. We drink water from young, green coconuts. We dry and grate the meat of older

coconuts and use it in cooking. People use coconut meat to make pies, ice cream and cakes. We also use it with fish and chicken.

• Listen up!: Read aloud from the Listening Texts, page 139. • Reading: Draw a KWL chart like this one on the board. Talk with pupils and fill in their suggestions in the first two columns. • For a KWL chart, see Workbook 2 page 99. • Encourage pupils to make up questions to write in the middle column.
