Word work: compound nouns
Some words are made up of two smaller words. homework = home + work
someone = some + one
1 Which two words make up each of these words?

2 Make six compound words. Use one word from each cloud for every word. Example: some + body è somebody

Writing: write about an accident
Have you ever had an accident? Maybe you fell down or cut your finger or banged your knee.
Getting ideas 1 Think of a time when you had an accident.
• Word work: For more work on compound nouns, see Workbook 2 page 69. DA Writing: Vary the partners with whom pupils work, sometimes pairing pupils of different abilities. You might need to work alongside some pupils to support them in collecting ideas. • Use journals also for expressing views. E.g. discuss a topical issue (school uniforms, cell phones in school etc.) and invite pupils to write a paragraph in their journals, saying what they think and their reasons.
