Unit 16
2 Tell your partner about the accident. Then make your own notes on a chart like this.
1 Where were you?
2 Who was there?
3 What happened first?
4 How did you feel?
5 What happened next?
6 Then what happened?
7 How did you feel?
Drafting 3 Write about your accident in your journal. Revising 4 Ask a partner to check your work. Ask:
• Are my ideas clear? • Have I said how I felt? • Have I described the events in the order in which they happened?
5 Make changes to your writing to make it more interesting.
Proofreading 6 Use the proofreading checklist on page 105.
• Before pupils share their stories, draw the chart on the board. Using the illustration demonstrate how to make notes for a story. Ask pupils to help you to decide what to write. • Pupils need not draw their own chart. They can write numbered notes, e.g. 1 in playground . DA Ask pupils how they felt when listening to their partner’s story. • Use journals also for expressing views. E.g. discuss a topical issue (school uniforms, cell phones in school etc.) and invite pupils to write a paragraph in their journals, saying what they think and their reasons.
