Language Tree SB 2

Unit 5

Writing

1 Work in pairs. Look at the pictures and tell the story.

2 Write the story. This is your first draft .

3 Read your story to your partner and ask him or her these questions.

Revising checklist

Are my sentences clear? Can I make it more interesting? Can I describe things better?

Type part of your story. Add a clip art picture.

• Listen to your partner’s suggestions. • Listen carefully to your partner’s story. • Say how to make it more interesting.

4 Make changes to make your story better.

• Remind pupils of the writing process (page 135). Exercise 1 is the first stage – getting ideas. Exercise 2 is the draft. Exercises 3 and 4 deal with revising. You may ask pupils to go on to proofread their work – checking on capital letters, full stops and spelling. • The final stage: Re-writing can be hard work for pupils. You may wish to ask them to produce final, neat copies only of selected pieces of work for display or inclusion in a collection of pupils’ work. • Exercise 3: Tell pupils to also say one thing they like about their partner’s story. • Keep examples of pupils’ writing to record progress and achievement. Share these ‘ portfolios ’ with them. For more on portfoliios see the online teaching resources.
