Language Tree SB 2

Unit 6

Writing 1 Write your own poem. Use this framework to help you. • Use parts of the body to complete the lines in verse 1. • Use verbs to complete the lines in verse 2.

______________ up, ______________ stretch, Reach up tall! ______________ bend, ______________ down, Curl up in a ball! ______________ now, ______________ now, Hop, hop, hop! ______________ again, ______________ again, And then STOP!

2 Read your poem out loud. How can you make it more interesting? Can you think of more exciting verbs?

Type your poem. Experiment with different fonts.

3 Revise your poem. Practise reading it aloud with actions. Ask a partner: How can I make my performance better?

4 Write your poem out neatly. Draw a picture to go with it.

• Before pupils begin writing, brainstorm verbs to use in verse 2 – either in pairs or as a class. Encourage pupils to think of interesting verbs – not just the obvious ones. Ask them to think of all the possible ways they might move, e.g. slide , roll , bounce , shuffle , crawl , leap , wriggle . • Allow pupils time to revise their poems. Invite individuals to perform their poems to the rest of the class.
