The Mongoose
Mongooses eat animals and plants. They are omnivores. They eat small animals, such as insects, crabs, rats and lizards, as well as eggs and fruit.
• Listen up!: Read fiction and non-fiction extracts to pupils from the Listening Texts, page 137. • Help pupils to identify features of non-fiction : The text gives us information. It is written in the present tense and it is illustrated by a photograph, not a painting done from the artist’s imagination. CR Extension: Read aloud the poem, ‘Sly Mongoose’ (page 137) for pupils’ enjoyment. Ask how they would say some of the Creole phrases in standard English.
