The lady asks How does it fit? I say to Mom Pinches a bit But that’s not true It’s just because I don’t want brown I prefer the blue.
The lady goes inside brings another size this time the blue Not too big. Not too tight. As you guessed Just right, just right Mom says, ‘The blue will do.’ And I agree. Don’t you?
John Agard
CR Let’s talk: You may allow pupils to recount their personal experiences in Creole. If they report to the class in Creole, praise their contribution and invite them to say it also in standard English. • Extension: In pairs, pupils read verses 1 and 2 aloud with expression. Pupil A: reads the lines in green. Pupil B: reads the lines in blue. They read the other lines together. Divide the class into two groups to practise choral reading. • Ask pupils to identify the author of the poem. If possible, read them other poems by the Guyanese poet, John Agard. You will find some of his poems if you search online for John Agard children’s poems .
