1 Which of these adjectives describe the heron? Which adjectives describe Little Frog? 1 tall 2 little

3 graceful 4 unhappy 5 green 6 grey

2 Which of these groups of words are adjectives? Ask yourself: Which of these words can I use to describe Little Frog?

1 funny tree duck

2 heron lovely said

3 swim happy walk

• Extension: Write the name of an animal, in capital letters, vertically on the board. Ask pupils to help you write an adjective beginning with each letter to describe the animal. E.g. BIRD – Bright Intelligent Red Dainty (This is called an ‘acrostic poem’.) Pupils can do the same with their own names. DA Ask some pupils to list more than one adjective beginning with each letter. • For more work on adjectives, see Workbook 2 pages 29–30.
