Language Tree SB 2

1 What was the weather like on Friday? 2 When was it windy? 3 What was the date on Thursday?

4 Was Wednesday a good day to go on a picnic? Why or why not? 5 Ask your partner two questions. The answer must be on Kaleb’s chart.

Did it rain on Monday?

Yes it did.

Speaking and listening

Listen to your teacher read a poem. Answer the questions.

1 What can you hear in the dry season? 2 In the wet season, what do the clouds do? 3 What do you like about this poem?

• Questions 4 and 5: Ask pupils to discuss these questions in pairs and report their ideas to the class. • Extension: Find more opportunities to encourage pupils to generate questions to gather information. For example, show them photographs from books or magazines and ask them to make up questions about the images. • Speaking and listening: read aloud the poem from the Listening Texts, page 138. After discussing the questions with the class, ask pupils if they know any poems about the weather, e.g. ‘Rain, rain, go away/ Come again another day.’
