3 Use and or but to join these sentences. 1 There were big clouds. It did not rain. 2 It was windy. My hat blew away. 3 I saw two boats. I saw a windsurfer. 4 I found my umbrella. I lost my hat. 5 Dad left his phone. He left his keys. 6 I went to bed. I did not sleep.
DA Exercise 3: Give pupils extra support where needed. Say each sentence aloud using first ‘ and ’, then ‘ but ’. Discuss with them which sounds correct and why. • Extension: Pupils can work in pairs to make up their own sentences using ‘and’ and ‘but’.
