5 Revise your description and write it out neatly.
• Tell pupils to use the illustration as a stimulus to help them gather ideas for their writing. DA Exercise 2 (generating ideas): Pair pupils of different abilities, asking the more fluent writer to act as scribe. Alternatively, this can be a class exercise in which you write ideas on the board – demonstrating how to make a word web. Pupils go on to write their own first draft. • You may want to invite pupils to write a poem, using the words they have brainstormed.
