1 Draw your own word web. • Write the words in green.

• Leave out the words in blue.

2 Choose a person you know or a character from a story.

She talks a lot and she has a pet goat.

3 Say what your person looks like , what sort of person he / she is and what he / she does . 4 Write notes in your word web. Use it to write two paragraphs: 1 what the person looks like 2 what he or she does

Type your paragraph then edit it. Use the spell checker to check your spellings.

5 Check your writing.

Have I used adjectives? Are my sentences clear? Have I checked tricky spellings in a dictionary?

6 Revise your description and write it out neatly.

• Writing: Remind pupils that an interesting description of a person will say what that person is like and what he / she does – not just what he / she looks like. DA Pupils may write a few sentences or a longer paragraph, according to ability. • Pupils can read their work to a partner who helps them answer the questions in the ‘Check your writing’ section. Encourage pupils to revise their work.
