94 ICT Speaking and listening, Exercise 1: Discuss as a class. Pupils may suggest voice messages, texts, emails, cards or other media. If appropriate, you may suggest pupils send an email to a friend or family member, saying thank you for something. Encourage pupils to ask questions about what a speaker says if they don’t understand or want more information. • Exercise 2: Online greetings are less formal (‘Hello’ or ‘Hi’). A text will be much shorter. You don’t need a stamp for online communication. People use abbreviations; they often don’t even put their name. Discuss how spellings used in texts and emails may differ from those used in letters.
