Kidney and Urinary Tract Innate Immunity Translational Program: National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded program explores components of the kidney and urinary tract that prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) with a focus on intercalated cells. FIGHT study: Clinical study furthers the discovery that multiple UTIs led to kidney function decline in children with vesicoureteral reflux; study to determine if antibiotics prevent kidney function decline. Interventional clinical trials HIKO-STEC trial: NIH-funded cluster-randomized crossover trial aims to determine if hyperhydration improves outcomes in children with high-risk STEC-infections.
