Adriana Maria Otelea, 23 Pitesti, Romania Undergraduate degree: BSc Philosophy, Politics and Economics with Economics Major with Intercalated Year Abroad, University of Warwick Course: MSc Business Analytics Why Warwick Business School? Having completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Warwick, I got to experience first-hand the quality of the well-rounded education here, how diverse and modern this environment is, and how wonderful the campus is. After browsing my options for my postgraduate degree, I realised I just loved everything about this place, but especially the academic culture – how open-minded people are and how passionate everyone is about the subject they specialise in, and I decided that is everything I want as I continue my studies. The MSc Business Analytics course within Warwick Business School promised to meet all these expectations, with very diverse cohorts previously and high-profile academics and professionals delivering the modules.

Jiyong Kim, 25 Seoul, Republic of Korea Undergraduate degree: BSc Business Management (Marketing), Cardiff University Course: MSc Management of Information Systems & Digital Innovation Why Warwick Business School? I was impressed by the alumni network and the promising career support for postgraduate students, as career development was my top priority when joining the programme. The relationship with the CareersPlus team, who helped me with careers support, turned out to be one of my favourite things about my experience at Warwick Business School. In terms of the academic content, I was intrigued by the up- to-date and wide range of digital innovation-related topics throughout the course. Juan Villegas Espinosa, 28 Quito, Ecuador Undergraduate degree: Economics in Pontificia, Universidad Católica de Ecuador Course: MSc Finance & Economics Why Warwick Business School? While looking to continue my academic development, I was searching for a challenge. A university that had high-level education standards, good rankings, and offered the opportunity to meet people from all around the world. During my pursuit, I found Warwick Business School, which met with everything I was looking for. Furthermore, the MSc Finance & Economics modules combine precisely what I wanted to for my professional life. Modules such as Corporate Financial Management, Asset Pricing, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Ethics, Financial Regulation, and Corporate Governance clicked with the financial profile I wanted to have, with the addition of economics knowledge which boosted my profile.

Xiao Bai, 23 Tianjin, China Undergraduate degree: BSc Financial Management, Wuhan University of Technology Course: MSc Business & Finance Why Warwick Business School?

I decided to join WBS because I felt that the well-designed course structure of Business & Finance would perfectly extend my existing knowledge in the Financial Management area, enabling me to pursue my career with more options in the Financial Market. In addition, the fantastic CareersPlus service, various co-curricular opportunities (such as the QTEM programme and workshops), and the campus with beautiful, natural views also encouraged me to further explore my possibilities here.

I chose MSc Marketing & Strategy specifically because of the modules. I was looking for a course that would let me dip my toes into multiple aspects of marketing instead of limiting me to a certain type of marketing, and MSc Marketing & Strategy was perfect for me. We also had the option to choose between Business in Practice or a Dissertation; having the flexibility to decide between modules is common but having the option in the final project is refreshing. WBS ensures that each module is more than just lectures or seminars. There are guest speaker events, social events, field trips, get-togethers and so much more to make life at WBS memorable in more than one way.

The course structure is what attracted me to WBS. I noticed that there’s a lot of application of theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, which I felt was a great way to get students ready for the challenges they might encounter in the corporate world. The lecturers, in particular, were really helpful in explaining the theoretical concepts in detail. The seminars also really stood out, because we were able to communicate with the Professors directly and clear our questions about the concepts that were taught. You really have to be a critical thinker, and apply your problem-solving abilities on this course.

The highlight would be the amazing people I have met on this course, who are very diverse in terms of background, experience, and culture. While many of them progressed to the MSc directly from undergrad, some colleagues have had multiple years of experience working in the industry, and they bring in interesting new perspectives to group discussions. Even though this cohort is diverse, one thing in common is that all of my cohort are ambitious go-getters, hence we are all willing to put in the effort in pursuing our own dreams.

So I was particularly interested in MSc Mathematical Finance because I wanted to learn more and further my knowledge of the financial industry and financial theory, whilst keeping the mathematical rigour that I was accustomed to at undergraduate level. This course appealed to me because it brought in three different departments; the Business School, the Mathematics Institute, and the Stats department. All are world-renowned departments in their respective field. There are two things that I’m really enjoying about the course. The first one is the actual mathematical treatment of a lot of the theories, which makes it quite accessible and interesting for someone with that mathematical background. And the second aspect is coding. Before I joined this course, I didn’t think I was a big computer person, but then I realised how much I enjoy it; this will be very useful in the future as coding is becoming a lot more present and widely used in the finance world.
