7 Choose four of the words from Exercise 6. Write each one in a sentence. Example: The bees buzzed around the pot of jam. Speaking and listening: recite a poem Work in groups. Present a dramatised recitation of The Party to the class. 1 Plan how to perform the poem. • Who will say each line? • Are there any lines you will say together? • What sound effects will you have? (e.g. drumming, clapping) • Will you mime any of the actions? What will you do?

2 Practise your performance, then perform the poem to the rest of the class.

Comment on the following aspects: • Did the group speak clearly? • Was the performance varied and lively? • Did the group have interesting actions and sound effects? • How could the performance be improved?

• Each group could complete a self-assessment of their recitation using the speaking assessment chart on page 171. ICT  Video each group’s recitation. Play back for peer evaluation.
