1 Compare and contrast the animals described below. Complete the table.
An agouti is a small rodent which can live for up to 6 years in the wild. Its slender body is covered with fur, brown on its back and yellowish white on its underside. It lives in tropical regions in grassland and rainforest. Its diet consists of nuts and fruit. nuts. Agoutis are sociable animals and live in family groups. An opossum is a small slim rodent with a life-span of only two to four years. Its body is covered in grey or black fur, and it has a sharply pointed nose. The opossum is a solitary animal; and avoids human contact. It is adaptable and can live wherever it has water, food and shelter. It eats a varied diet of insects, snails, nuts, fruits and grasses.

3 Complete the paragraph with present perfect verb forms.

• Exercise 1: This table is a simpler way of comparing and contrasting than the Venn diagram on page 117. Tell students to find two similarities to write in the middle column, and two differences for each animal. DA Exercise 1: Allow some students to list only one more similarity and one difference for each animal.
