Language Instructions

1 Read this student’s account of an experiment.

WB 5 p162

Making a Baking Soda Volcano First, we mixed flour, water, salt and oil in a big bowl and made some stiff dough. We stood an empty plastic bottle on a tray, then we wrapped the dough around the bottle and made a cone shape with it. Next, we poured warm water into the bottle.

We did not fill the bottle right up to the top. After that, we added a small amount of washing powder. Then we put two big spoonfuls of baking soda into the bottle. Finally we poured vinegar into the bottle very slowly. The mixture shot up and poured down the sides of the cone like a volcano erupting.

Write instructions on how to perform the experiment. Example: First, mix flour, water, salt and oil in a big bowl.

Give instructions for playing a game. This could be a sport or a game like dominoes or marbles. Imagine that you are explaining to a younger student how to play this game.
