Writing: persuasive letter In a persuasive letter you ask the person to whom you are writing to do something for you, or to change his or her mind about something. You must explain why you are asking them to do this. Remember to write politely.

Your school principal has asked students not to bring valuable items such as cell phones, expensive sneakers or jewellery to school.

Write a letter asking the principal to reconsider this decision. • Explain why you want to bring these items to school. • Promise that you will look after them carefully. 1 Write a rough draft of your letter.

Checklist for a formal letter Have I: written my address and today’s date at the top? written the name and address of the person to whom I am writing? included a greeting? finished my letter with a suitable closing phrase? remembered to be polite?
