Word work: spelling Many words have similar spellings and are easily confused: advice (noun) è You should listen to the instructor’s advice . advise (verb) è I do not advise you to go to the reef today . Select the correct words to complete the sentences. 1 Plan the content of your poster. • Create a slogan, e.g. Take Pride in Your School! • Write three or four points for your poster, e.g. Keep your classroom clean Look after your books 2 Plan the layout of your poster. Think about:

• how to set out the text on the page • the colours and the illustrations.

Explore fonts, colours and clip art to create your poster.

Make a rough sketch of your poster. Discuss it with another student. How could you improve it?

Make a neat copy of the poster.

•  Word work: These words are often different parts of speech. Learning what parts of speech these words are will help students to spell them correctly. •  Writing: You could let your students prepare posters in pairs. When they have finished, create a wall display.
