Questions 41–45: READING Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
'Is this seat taken?' The market vendor flopped wearily down on the seat beside Brad and hoisted her basket onto her ample knees. Brad squeezed closer to the window of the crowded van. The handle of the basket dug into his ribs and he was sure he could hear a chicken squawking inside. It was the first day of the holidays and Brad was on his way to his grandfather's farm. He was travelling on his own for the first time, and it seemed an age since he had left home that morning. As the van ground its way up a steep slope, Brad gazed out of the window. Although he was a city boy, he loved the lush green landscape of the country. He was looking forward to helping his grandfather care for the animals and harvest the crops on his farm. Last year he had grown his own vegetables to sell in the market. He hoped to grow an even bigger crop this year. It was very hot in the van and Brad's eyes began to droop. The miles sped by. Suddenly he felt the van come to a stop with a jerk. For a moment, he did not know where he was. Then he heard a familiar voice. 'Wake up, Brad! You've arrived.' His grandmother was standing beside the window, a broad smile on her face. Brad clambered over the vendor, trying hard not to wake her up, and leapt out of the van. His holiday had begun.
