Questions 46–50: READING Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.

The Leatherback Sea Turtle Leatherback turtles have lived in our oceans for millions of years. They are the world’s largest living sea turtle. They live on a diet of sea plants and jellyfish, and can weigh more than 300 kilograms. They have a life span of 40 years or more, and with one exception, spend their whole life in the sea. Scientists who track leatherbacks have made an interesting discovery. Although leatherbacks often travel more than 3000 miles around the globe in search of food, females always return to the beach where they hatched themselves to lay their eggs. They come ashore at night and dig a nest in the sand. They lay 70 or more eggs in the nest and cover them with sand before returning to the sea. Around five weeks later, the young turtles hatch and crawl across the sand into the sea. In reality, few leatherback eggs hatch. Most are stolen by human and animal predators, or destroyed by people trampling on their nests. If the young turtles survive, many dangers await them when they reach the sea, where they are hunted for their meat or get caught in fishing nets and lines. Unfortunately, these magnificent creatures are now an endangered species, and are only found in a few places around the world. Although beaches in the Caribbean once hosted huge colonies of these spectacular creatures, they are now only found in very few places.
