Writing: letter of apology Write a letter to a friend or family member to apologise for damaging an item they lent you. This item can be either one of the items from the role play exercise on page 27, or an item of your own choice.

• Synonyms: Explain to students that they can use the context to help them identify synonyms. • Writing process: Follow the process in the usual way, but give particular emphasis to proofreading . Develop a proofreading checklist with students, e.g. capital letters at the beginning of sentences, full stops, exclamation marks, question marks at the ends of sentences.
