Heart of Gold

Since her retirement from athletics, world-famous Olympic sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown has devoted herself to helping others. After her appointment as UNESCO Ambassador for gender equality in sport in 2009, she created the Veronica Campbell-Brown Foundation. This organisation assists girls from needy families and helps them complete their education. Campbell-Brown regularly takes time out from her busy schedule to spend time with the girls selected for the programme and helps them make their dreams come true. Campbell-Brown did not have an easy path to success. Growing up in a family of nine brothers, she spent her early years in rural Jamaica. From the start Campbell- Brown showed promise as a sprinter, but her progress was held back by the lack of sports facilities in the area. Her natural talent won her a scholarship to Vere Technical College where she took advantage of the excellent sports programme provided by the school.

As long as you have breath, as long as the sun shines, and the trees and the grass sustain life, no dreams are too huge to come alive.
