To form negative sentences in the simple past we use did not + the root form of the verb: They did not win any medals.

• Simple past: To give students extra practice, ask them to write sentences about what they did the previous day or on the weekend. • Negatives and questions: You may wish to point out that did is used as a helping verb in the simple past tense.
