Writing: portfolio Your Writing Portfolio is a collection of different writing tasks you complete in Grades 5 and 6. It should contain samples of different types of writing. You can start collecting items for your portfolio now. You will be able to make a final selection later. These are examples of the types of writing tasks you could include in your Writing Portfolio. • stories • biographies and autobiographies • reports of events • newspaper articles • friendly letters • formal letters • speeches • information texts • poems • notices and advertisements You should write a short reflection on each piece of work you place in your portfolio. Use the self-assessment table on page 171 to help you.

• Writing portfolio: It is a good idea for students to start collecting material for their writing portfolio now. If they are submitting a portfolio for the CPEA, their portfolio must show signs of progression. • Remind students to follow each stage of the writing process when they prepare pieces for their portfolio, • Explain to students that the purpose of their writing portfolio is to provide a record of the writing assignments they have completed in Grades 5[N]6. It should contain examples of their best work.
