To form the present participle , we add ‘ing’ to the root verb: Remember: For verbs ending in ‘-e’ : Remove ‘-e’ before adding ‘-ing’ :

4 Complete these sentences with verbs in the present continuous tense. Example: The vendor is selling (sell) soup.

1 Some dogs _______ (search) for titbits in the piles of rubbish. 2 The wind _______ (blow) scraps of paper around the street. 3 I _______ (plan) to buy fresh vegetables at the market. 4 Office workers _______ (sit) at the tables eating lunch.

5 Mom _______ (make) a chicken stew for dinner. 6 People _______ (get) into the buses to go home.

5 Write five or more sentences to say what is happening in the picture. Use the present continuous tense. Example:  The girls are sitting in the van.

•  Exercise 5: Get students to brainstorm sentences about the picture in pairs before they write. DA  Help some students with Exercise 5 by writing it as a group exercise on the board.
