• how the accident happened • what caused the accident.
There was an accident yesterday outside the Post Office in Oistins, just as children were on their way home from school. Two vehicles were involved: a car and a minibus. Although no one was hurt, one of the onlookers called the police. Soon a policewoman arrived to take statements.

I was driving past the Post Office when I saw a vendor beside the road, selling sno-cones. I saw a little boy playing on the edge of the road and thought he was going to run out. I swerved to avoid him. Suddenly I saw in my driving mirror that a minibus was trying
I was on my usual route when I saw a small car ahead of me. It was travelling slowly so I decided to overtake it. Suddenly the driver pulled out without giving a signal. I do not think the driver knew I was there. I was unable to avoid the car. I did not see the sno-cone vendor or the little boy until after the accident.

• Predicting: This is a useful way of helping students to engage with reading texts. Tell them to pause from time to time as they read to check and possibly revise their predictions. When they finish reading they can assess to what extent their predictions about the text were true.
