1 Read part of a story. Answer the questions.

One day on their way to school, Millie and Josh passed a mango tree laden with fruit. Josh reached up to pick the fruit. It was too high, so he used a stick to knock it down. Suddenly, there was a loud shout. ‘Wha yu do dere? You tief mi mango.’ A man emerged from the garden, shaking his fist at the

children. Millie and Josh turned tail and fled, leaving their school bags behind them. Later that morning, Millie and Josh were sitting in a maths lesson when the classroom door flew open. The owner of the mango tree burst in, holding their school bags in the air. ‘Who dese bags?’ he cried. ‘Dem tief mi fruit.’ The children’s teacher looked at them sternly. ‘Please explain why this man has your bags?’ she commanded. 1 What is the setting for this story? 2 What can you infer from the phrase ‘shaking his fist’? 3 Were Millie and Josh afraid when the man shouted at them? How do you know that? 4 How did the man know where to find the children? 5 How do you think this story will end? 2 Rewrite these sentences. Use correct punctuation including quotation marks.
