Speaking and listening: presentation 1 Make notes for a presentation about a natural feature in your country.

This could be a) a mountain

b) a waterfall d) a forest • Choose suitable sources of information and find out more about the feature you selected for your presentation. • Create questions to guide your research. Use question words, e.g. What? Where? How? c) a river or lake There are many different sources you can use to find information. • reference books e.g. encyclopaedias • webpages • newspapers and magazines • leaflets and posters • people: teachers, parents, librarians, resource persons 2 Write headings for your presentation. Make notes for each heading. Create an organiser like the one below. Heading Notes 1 Name of feature and location Annandale Falls, Grenada, close to St John 2 Details, e.g. height, vegetation 3 How you get there 4 What you can do there 3 Study the notes on giving a presentation. Practise your presentation. When you give a presentation remember: • to speak slowly and clearly • to make sure everyone can hear you • to look at your audience • to use your notes • Don’t write your presentation in full then read it out to your audience. • Try not to be nervous. Take a deep breath and get started.

4 Give your presentation to your class. Ask them to comment on your presentation.

5 Complete a self-assessment form. (See page 171)

• Exercise 4: Students can use the criteria in the self-assessment form page 171 to help them assess the presentations. • If there is insufficient time for each student to deliver his or her presentation, they could deliver it to a partner or student group. ICT Video some student presentations. Play them back for comment and evaluation.
