• You may wish to tell students that sentences linked with subordinating conjunctions are complex sentences . • Demonstrate to students that joining short sentences with conjunctions makes a piece of writing sound better. Read out the sentences in Exercise 5 as separate sentences, e.g. The guide took us round the garden. He showed us the plants . Then join the sentences with conjunctions and read them out.
