tested Hermans dropped to No. 3 as Kozin was finally dropped when she became one- year inactive on Dec. 18. Taking the vacant spot at No. 5 was France’s Priscilla Peterle.
Mucino. Esparza was probably eager to reclaim the No. 1 position from her nemesis, Gabriela Alaniz, but the Argentine held onto her rating when Houston’s Esparza missed the weight for her clash against Mucino by two pounds. This being the second time in a row that Esparza has missed weight, the panel decided not to reward her lack of discipline and kept her at No. 2. JUNIOR FLYWEIGHT: With the undisputable No. 1 contender in the division, Jessica Nery Plata, already inactive for one year and entering an extended hiatus due to her foray into motherhood, the division was in dire need of a revamp. Add to that the exit of Argentina’s Leonela Yudica and Mexico’s Tania Enriquez due to inactivity, and the minor upset by Canada’s Sara Bailey over the always tough Anabel Ortiz, and the scramble is inevitable. Even though Bailey- Ortiz took place a bit north of the 108 limit, they both campaign at lower weights and were thus rated at No. 3 for Bailey and 5 for Ortiz, with the legendary Lourdes Juarez reentering the fold at No. 4.
picked Raven Chapman to enter at No. 5. Sarah Mahfoud’s win over Danila Ramos failed to earn the Danish fighter any momentum to move past Germany’s Nina Meinke. JUNIOR BANTAMWEIGHT: A brief return to the ratings by Argentina’s Micaela Lujan took place

JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT: They aimed to put the lingering questions from their first fight to bed once and for all. They didn’t do that, as many observers felt the decision was unfair, but Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano gave us another blood-soaked battle of wills that turned out to go ever so slightly for the Irish legend, who remained our champ. Serrano expressed her desire to return to featherweight after the fight, and thus she remains unrated at 140. Later in the month, England’s Samantha Worthington scored a stay-busy win that nonetheless helped her get a bump to No. 2 as Oshin Derieuw and Christina Linardatou were dropping out due to inactivity. Elisabeth Oshoba and Elhem Mekhaled were picked to be our new Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. LIGHTWEIGHT: After three straight fights at 140, it’s time for us to declare Katie Taylor’s inaugural Ring championship vacant. A crowded field of top-notch talents such as Caroline Dubois, Beatriz Ferreira, Terri Harper, Rhiannon Dixon and possibly Alycia Baumgardner could be vying for the historic belt very soon. FEATHERWEIGHT: With Jennifer Miranda apparently headed for 130, we had to free up a spot for a deserving talent at 126 pounds. Tiara Brown was proposed, but the panel

Argentina’s Jennifer Meza, but it wasn’t enough to move past pound-for-pound talent Yokasta Valle. But a different story took place in the lower tier of the Top 5, where Yadira Bustillos’ exit due to inactivity led to the inclusion of Argentine trial horse- turned-KO-artist Sol Baumstarh at No. 5. ATOMWEIGHT: A new champ is born! Germany’s Tina Rupprecht defeated Japan’s Eri Matsuda to become the first-ever woman to lift the Ring Magazine belt for the lightest division in all of boxing. With Matsuda dropping to No. 2, it was time to bring Sumire Yamanaka to the top position. And with everyone else moving up one spot to fill in for the new champ, Mexico’s Esneidy Rodriguez Olmos was picked to become the new No. 5. She didn’t stay there for too long, however. A few days later, Mexico’s Rodriguez Olmos defeated
