To:

Zak

From: Tanya Subject: Choir

Hi Zak I was not at school today but I will be there tomorrow. Mom and I were not well. Now I am better but she is still sick . I have spent the day lying on the sofa. Do not worry about the maths test. You will be fine. You are great at maths! Tanya

Writing

The climax is the most exciting part of a story. In the novel, ‘A Cow Called Boy’, the climax comes when it looks as if Mr. Watson is going to have Boy killed for meat. This is quickly followed by the resolution when everyone turns against Mr. Watson and he decides to sell Boy back to Josh.

Write a story with this title: ‘The Day My Pet Came to School’.

1 Brainstorm ideas for each element of the story in a word web. Think of two or three events leading up to a climax .

3 Use your plan to help you to write your story. • Include direct and reported speech in your story.

• Describe the events, the climax and how everything was sorted out in the end. • Use transition words and phrases to make clear the sequence of events.

DA Writing: Some students may plan a simpler story using fewer story parts: beginning, middle and end. Use one of the graphic organisers on page 166. • Portfolio: Encourage students to look back at stories in their portfolio to reflect on how their story writing has developed.
