What can we do about it? We need to reduce our carbon footprint. That is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air. There are lots of things we can do. How can we do this? • Eat less meat • Use less electricity • Use our cars less • Use solar or wind energy • Be an expert and tell other people. Reduce – Don’t buy more things than you need. Re-use whatever you can: glass jars, plastic cutlery and plastic bags. Turn off the light when you leave the room… because every little helps. Remember: The more energy you use, the more the planet warms up.

• Ask students to identify features of expository text including headings, diagrams and photographs. • Comprehension questions: Discuss questions 3 and 4. Ask students to make practical suggestions such as: taking the bus or walking to school, recycling paper, re-using plastic bottles, writing on both sides of the paper. They could also: encourage their parents to use their cars less, shop locally and buy things that are made or grown locally (to reduce air transport of goods).
