The relative pronouns, who , which and where can be used to join two phrases or sentences. Who refers to people. Which refers to things. Where refers to places: That is the scientist. He wrote the report. è That is the scientist who wrote the report. The fungus was found in South America. It has killed many frogs è The fungus was found in South America where it has killed many frogs.

Conditions are created. They are ideal for the fungus. è Conditions are created which are ideal for the fungus

A relative pronoun takes the place of a noun or a pronoun.

1 Match the phrases and make sentences using who , which or where . I like people Those are the solar panels This is the beach Let’s use paper bags Dad has a friend We planted three trees who which where

2 Join each pair of sentences at the top of page 138. Use who , which or where . Example:  We went to the museum. We learnt about coral reefs there. è We went to the musem where we learnt about coral reefs.
