In a conditional sentence, one action depends on another. If we play well, we will win. (what will happen) If I had the money I would buy that shirt. (what might happen)

The present perfect tense tells us about something which happened in the past. It does not tell us when it happened. It is formed from the helping verb has or have + the past participle: I have given the keys to Anna.

Past perfect See page 68

The past perfect tense tells us about something which happened before another action in the past. The past perfect uses the helping verb had + the past participle.

Write the past perfect verbs that are missing from this paragraph. Anansi sat on the veranda and reviewed his day. He ____(1 find)___ a pile of sweet potatoes and he ____(2 eat)___ most of them. He ___ (3 give)___ just one to his wife. She ___(4 share)___ hers with their three children. Then Anansi __(5 sleep)____ for a few hours before coming out on the porch.
